Juan Antonio Obregon Obituary Missouri City, TX, Juan Antonio Has Died

Juan Obregon (Valentin), age 93, passed away on October 26, 2021, with his family by his side. Juan, affectionately known as Valentin, was born in Cedral, San Luis Potosi, Mexico, on February 14, 1928, to Patricio and Julia (Villanueva) Obregon. Raised on the family ranch, Valentin learned the value of hard work and perseverance from a young age.

As a young man, Valentin ventured to the Rio Grande Valley in south Texas alongside his brother Vicente, seeking work opportunities. It was there that he met the love of his life, Maria Josefa Medrano. The couple married in Donna, Texas, in 1947, embarking on a journey of love and partnership that would span decades.

Pursuing Opportunities in Ohio

In the early 1950s, Valentin was drawn to the promise of job opportunities in northern Ohio. Through a friend’s recommendation, he secured employment at US Gypsum, laying the foundation for his future in the region. Over the years, he worked for various companies, including Everett Pontiac, before finding his niche as a skilled carpenter under the employment of Louis Krempa. Driven by an entrepreneurial spirit, Valentin eventually established his own business, specializing in building and remodeling homes in the Port Clinton, Catawba, and Danbury areas. Alongside his wife, Maria, Valentin worked tirelessly to support their growing family, taking on additional jobs in the fields during the growing season and cleaning local business offices at night.

Embracing Faith and Community

A devout Catholic, Valentin was a dedicated member of Immaculate Conception Church in Port Clinton. He actively participated in the Cursillo Movement retreats in the 1970s and was a regular attendee of the daily morning masses, finding solace and community in his faith. He cherished his interactions with Father John Missler and found joy in the Friday morning masses attended by schoolchildren, who lovingly sang Happy Birthday to him on his 90th birthday.

Cherished Pastimes and Community Engagement

Valentin found joy in simple pleasures, such as dancing at weddings, bailes, and parties alongside his beloved wife and family. He fostered strong bonds within the Mexican American community, enjoying baseball games in Gypsum and friendly poker nights. Valentin had a passion for travel, often embarking on trips to Mexico, Texas, Colorado, and other states to visit family, and he delighted in sharing these experiences with his grandchildren.
