Watisoni Rauicava Obituary, A Farewell To A Dear Colleague and Friend

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we bid farewell to our cherished colleague and friend, Watisoni Rauicava, affectionately known as Watson. His untimely departure has left a void in our hearts and in the corridors of the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service. Watson embodied a vibrant and beloved personality that touched the lives of all who knew him. With an infectious smile and a boisterous Fijian laugh, he radiated warmth and optimism wherever he went. His presence could light up a room, and his genuine kindness endeared him to everyone he encountered.

 A Life Well-Lived

Born on July 28, 1968, Watson lived a life filled with purpose and dedication. He dedicated over two decades of service to the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service, formerly known as the Fiji Customs and Excise Department. Joining as an Assistant Customs Officer in 1989, Watson’s journey was one of continuous growth and achievement. As we bid farewell to Watson Rauicava, we do so with gratitude for the indelible mark he left on our lives and our organization.

A Pioneer in Customs Education

In 2009, Watson made history by becoming the first Fijian to graduate with a post-graduate qualification in the field of Customs – a Master of International Customs Law and Administration (MICLA) from the prestigious Centre for Customs Excise Studies at the University of Canberra. His commitment to education and professional development was unparalleled, setting a standard for excellence within the organization.

A Legacy of Service and Mentorship

Throughout his tenure, Watson’s contributions went beyond his official duties. He was instrumental in shaping the future of the organization, leaving behind a lasting legacy of excellence and integrity. His selfless dedication to mentoring and nurturing the next generation of customs officers exemplified his commitment to the service and his desire to see others succeed.

A National Recognition of Customs Studies

Watson’s impact extended far beyond the confines of his workplace. He played a pivotal role in elevating the status of Customs studies within Fiji, advocating for national recognition and support for educational initiatives within the field. His efforts led to the granting of scholarships to in-service officers, furthering the professional development of customs officials across the country.

A Fond Farewell

In 2015, after serving with distinction as the National Manager Border Control, Watson made the difficult decision to resign from his position. While his departure was a loss for the organization, his contributions will forever be remembered and cherished by all who had the privilege of working alongside him.

His spirit, his laughter, and his unwavering dedication to service will continue to inspire us in the days ahead. Though he may no longer walk among us, his legacy will endure as a beacon of light and hope. Rest in peace, dear Watson. You will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
