Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Hunt, a beloved member of the Jefferson community who left an indelible mark on the lives of those she made contact with, passed away recently. The community is in mourning over her passing. While we are remembering and honouring her, we are thinking back on the chapters of her life that characterised her as a caring wife, mother, grandmother, and member of the community who served with compassion.
The Formative Years and the Family
She was born on January 8, 1948, to Ernest and Mary Livesey, and she grew up surrounded by the love of her parents and two sisters, Janet Livesey and Carolyn Hussey. Betty’s birthday is January 8. She started out on a journey to establish her own family, which eventually became the focal point of her entire space and time. In addition to her husband of ten years, Robert Hunt of Jefferson, her son Michael Lesage, her daughter Patricia Colomey, and a large number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought her a great deal of happiness throughout her life, Betty is survived by her family.
The Passion and the Work
A significant portion of Betty’s life was devoted to her professional life, during which she worked at Chase Paper and Southborough Medical Group. Her dedication to her work and work ethic were both outstanding, which garnered her the respect of her coworkers and left an indelible mark on those with whom she collaborated with.
A Love for Travel
Betty was someone who had a strong interest in discovering new places and enjoyed going to a variety of places. Alaska, London, and Paris were three of her most cherished countries and cities. Her life was enriched by these experiences, and she had memories that she will always cherish.
Interests and Recreational Activities
Betty’s creative abilities shone through in the many hobbies she pursued, such as crocheting, knitting, quilting, and sewing. She was able to create warmth and comfort not only for her family but also for those who were less fortunate thanks to her skilled hands. Both Betty and her husband, Bob, found great pleasure in going camping and going on adventures with their cherished dogs. They created memories that will last a lifetime in locations such as Humarock in Scituate and the Northeast. In addition to travelling along the coast, they also took river cruises along the Rhine River and travelled all the way from Quebec to Boston.
Philanthropy and Community Involvement
The compassionate nature of Betty’s heart inspired her to make a positive impact on the lives of other people. Betty, who was concerned about children who were in need during harsh winters, started projects to provide warm clothing for them. She made hundreds of hats, mittens, and scarves using her knitting skills. Through her participation in the shawl ministry at St. Mary’s Church and the American Sewing Guild, she was able to transform her passionate interest in sewing into contributions that were meaningful to others.
Celebration of Life
A gathering to honour Betty’s life will take place at Miles Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 21st, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. Calling hours will be held during this time. At ten o’clock in the morning on Thursday, February 22nd, there will be a Mass of Christian Burial held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Jefferson. Following the funeral, the burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Marlborough.
Honoring Betty’s Legacy
As an alternative to sending flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Knights of Columbus Council 14298 to honour the deceased. Include the phrase “For: Betty’s Hats, Mittens, and Dolls” in the gift acknowledgement. Betty’s legacy of warmth and kindness will be carried on with the help of these donations, which will ensure that her charitable efforts will continue to be carried out.
As we say our final goodbyes, let us remember Betty as a woman with a tremendous heart, whose legacy spreads far beyond her family, touching the lives of those she reached out to with love, compassion, and the warmth of her handcrafted creations.
