We are saddened to inform you of the passing of Brian Heron, who was widely regarded as one of the most respected advocates in West Auckland. It is with heavy hearts that we impart this news. On the fourteenth of February, 2024, Brian said his goodbyes to the world while he was surrounded by his loved ones, the most important of which was his beloved wife, Pat. A gap that Brian, with his unyielding energy, had filled for so many years is now left behind as a result of this tragedy, which reverberates across the community.
A Sporting Heritage to Inherit
During the year 2017, Brian and Pat were honoured with the coveted ‘Sport Waitākere Legacy Award,’ which is a rare award that is designated for persons who have made significant contributions to the lives of West Aucklanders by participating in sports and leisure. The couple’s unwavering dedication to cultivating a culture of athleticism and well-being across the community was demonstrated by this honour, which served as validation of their efforts.
The Trusts Stadium is the product of the architect’s dreams.
One of the most impressive accomplishments that Brian has accomplished is that he played a crucial part in the establishment of The Trusts Stadium, which is a foundational component of the Don Oliver Youth Sport Foundation. It is a credit to Brian’s vision and drive that the stadium stands as a testament to his aim of providing a state-of-the-art facility for the youngsters of West Auckland to practise and develop their athletic abilities. The fact that it exists is a monument to his long legacy and his dedication to the community’s future that will last for generations to come.
Distinguished member of the Surf Lifesaving Community
Brian’s generosity stretched beyond the bounds of the stadium, reaching the coastlines, where he committed a significant portion of his time to the community of surf lifesaving. His services were so significant that he was awarded the New Zealand Order of Merit (NZOM), an honour that highlighted his extraordinary support and dedication to the cause. His contributions were so substantial that he was given this honour. Because of the countless lives that he touched and saved, Brian’s legacy will continue to live on for decades to come. His impact on the lifeguarding community will be felt for generations to come.
Please accept my sincere condolences.
As we find ourselves collectively mourning the loss of Brian Heron, we would like to send our thoughts and sympathies to Pat, his cherished wife, as well as the larger Heron whānau. His family and the community have been left with an indelible mark as a result of the love, support, and strength that he have supplied. During this time of sorrow, we stand together in remembrance of the vivacious and kind spirit who brought joy to the West Auckland community via his presence.
My heartfelt thanks and farewell
We are saying our goodbyes to Brian Heron with heavy hearts, and we would like to convey our gratitude for the incalculable contributions that he made to West Auckland. His legacy, which is deeply ingrained in the fabric of the community, will continue to serve as a wellspring of motivation for future generations.
As we say our final farewells, we do it with a profound sense of gratitude for the life of a friend, a guide, and a relentless advocate. Brian, may you rest in peace, secure in the knowledge that your influence on West Auckland will be indelibly recorded in the annals of its history. Sending our love from all of us at Sport Waitākere, both in the past and in the present.
