Susie Landonia and Wesley Othelius Thomas welcomed their son Ronnie into the world on October 15, 1953, from Washington, District of Columbia. He was the oldest of six children and spent his childhood in Chicago and Culpeper. He attended a number of schools in both of these locations before completing his high school education at Culpeper County High School. After completing his studies at Regent University, he went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business.
Family and Faith:
During his childhood, Ronnie was baptized at Antioch Baptist Church, and subsequent to that, his life was centered on his family and his faith. As a person who was described as the epitome of a gentleman and possessed an unassumingly kind demeanor, he became a rock of support for those who were dear to him. His nephews and nieces remember him for his laid-back and unruffled demeanor, highlighting his selfless nature and his willingness to go above and beyond to assist other people.
Childhood Memories and Close Bonds:
While Ronnie was growing up in Virginia, he took pleasure in participating in sports, listening to music, and spending time with his cousins, Karl “Tum” Williams and Vasquez Alonzo “Lonnie” Eddy. After their youthful antics were captured on the front page of the Culpeper Star Exponent, the three individuals, who took on the appearance of brothers, gained recognition in the community. The relationship between Ronnie and Lonnie, who were both members of a band when they were children and played trumpets, remained very close throughout their lives.
Military Service and Career:
Ronnie responded to the call to serve his country by enlisting in the military and serving in active duty from 1974 until 1978 under the United States Army. He was stationed in Germany, Korea, Panama, Panama, Fort Sill, and Fort Devens, among other places, due to his assignments. Following his discharge from the military with honor, he began a civilian career with the federal government, where he made significant contributions as a Senior Auditor with the Army Audit Agency. His unwavering commitment to their country and their duties left an indelible impression on everyone who knew him.
Personal Loss and Legacy:
In the wake of the passing of his late wife, Myrtle Thomas, Ronnie experienced a profound sense of human loss. In addition to his stepchildren, grandchildren, and a large extended family, he is survived by his three children, Kenneth Thomas (Ebony), Ricardo Thomas, and Juanesta Fields. He also leaves behind extended family members. Ronnie leaves behind a legacy of love, resiliency, and selflessness, despite the fact that he has lost two brothers, Douglas and Wesley. They were his brothers.
