Lucille Berrey Obituary, Lucille Berrey Has Passed Away – Death

The community of Mexico, Missouri, mourns the loss of Lucille “Lutie” Berrey, a beloved resident whose vibrant spirit touched the lives of many. On Friday afternoon, February 9, 2024, Lutie passed away at The King’s Daughters Home in Mexico, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and unwavering faith.

Born on August 2, 1935, in Thompson, Missouri, Lutie was the daughter of William Turner and Ruth Estelle (Carpenter) Berrey. From an early age, she exhibited a zest for life and a passion for serving others, qualities that would define her remarkable journey. Lutie’s commitment to her community was evident in everything she did. After graduating from Centralia High School, she embarked on a career at Holsheiser’s in Thompson, where she dedicated herself to her work with diligence and determination.

Later, she found her true calling as the co-owner and floral designer at Wonneman’s House of Flowers, a business she operated alongside her long-time companion and business partner, Barbara Wonneman, for over 57 years. At Wonneman’s Flowers and Gifts, Lutie’s creativity flourished as she poured her heart and soul into crafting beautiful floral arrangements that brought joy to countless customers. Her passion for her work was matched only by her deep love for animals, particularly her beloved poodles, which she adored and often brought to the shop to greet shoppers with their wagging tails and playful antics.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Lutie was an active member of Hopewell Baptist Church in Thompson, where she found strength and solace in her faith. She was also a talented athlete, known for her involvement in the well-known semi-professional softball team from Fulton and her accomplishments as a skilled bowler.

Lutie’s legacy of love and service extended far beyond the boundaries of her community, leaving an indelible imprint on the hearts of all who knew her. Her warm smile, compassionate heart, and unwavering generosity endeared her to everyone she met, and her impact will be felt for generations to come. Funeral services to celebrate Lutie’s life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Pickering Funeral Home, with Bro. Jay Morris officiating. Following the service, she will be laid to rest in Elmwood Cemetery, where she will be reunited with her loved ones.

May her memory be a blessing to all who knew her, and may her spirit of love and compassion continue to inspire us all.
