The Harrisburg community mourns the loss of a beloved member, Helen Mae Solivan, who peacefully passed away on February 6, 2024, surrounded by her children and loved ones. Helen’s life, marked by dedication to service, laughter, and love, has left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew her. Born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, on August 30, 1955, to Robert and Ethel Myers, Helen’s journey began with a foundation of love and resilience. She attended William Penn High School, where she laid the groundwork for a future characterized by unwavering dedication.
Early Years and Commitment to Community
Following high school, Helen embarked on a remarkable career as a telecommunications specialist for the Harrisburg Bureau of Police, starting in February 1978 and retiring in September 2010. Her 30+ years of service were marked by a profound commitment to supporting the brave men and women of the police force and contributing to the well-being of the community she held dear. For Helen, the Harrisburg Bureau of Police became more than a workplace it was a second family.
Proud to be a part of the sacred covenant to protect and serve, she dedicated herself wholeheartedly to her colleagues and the community they served. Her contributions, both professional and personal, endeared her to all who had the privilege of working alongside her.
A Loyal Fan and Avid Player
Despite being a lifelong Pennsylvanian, Helen held a surprising allegiance to the Washington Redskins and, later in life, embraced the Kansas City Chiefs. Her passion for NFL games was evident as she religiously watched matches every weekend, offering her unique commentary and fanfaronade after each play. Beyond her sports enthusiasm, Helen enjoyed playing Pinochle and Scrabble. Card and board games with family and friends were cherished moments of laughter and camaraderie. A voracious reader, she devoured every James Patterson book, finding solace and joy in the world of literature.
Remembering a Legacy of Love
Helen Solivan is survived by her daughter, Anjelica Solivan of Harrisburg, and her son and daughter-in-law, Agustin “Augie” and Ashley Solivan of Highlands Ranch, Colorado.
