After completing her high school education at Penn Yan Academy, she went on to complete her studies at SUNY Cortland, where she began her career as a teacher.

Following the completion of her Master’s degree at SUNY Brockport, Mary moved to Newcomb, which is located in the Adirondacks, in order to begin her career as a college instructor. Her unwavering devotion to education and the kids she taught became immediately apparent, laying the groundwork for a lifelong dedication to promoting personal development and academic achievement.
The impact that East High School and Monroe Community College have had on the lives of players and athletes
After moving back to Rochester, Mary became a teacher at East High School, where she left an indelible mark on the lives of her pupils. Both her enthusiasm for sports and her dedication to fostering the development of young women brought her to Monroe Community College, where she was a pioneer in the establishment of a women’s athletics programme. Mary, who was a coach for both basketball and hockey, was affectionately referred to as “M” by her players. She not only helped her players improve their physical abilities, but she also instilled in them values that went beyond the realm of sporting competition.
A Heart That Is Connected to the Land as It Comes Home to the Finger Lakes
Mary maintained a strong emotional connection to the Finger Lakes region, despite the fact that her professional life took her to a variety of locations. Upon reaching retirement age, she relocated back to Yates County, where she and her business partner, Mary Pat Pennell, established the Sugar Shack Blueberry Farm. Mary’s dedication to sustainable living and community engagement was demonstrated by the farm, which not only provided the rewards of their labour but also served as a tribute to Mary’s commitment.
