David Leishman Obituary, A Life Well-Lived -Death

 Dover mourns the loss of a beloved community member as David Leishman, 72, passed away on Monday, February 5, 2024, at Mercy Medical in Canton after a valiant and courageous battle with cancer. David’s life was marked by his unwavering spirit, dedication to family, and a remarkable career that touched the lives of many.

Born in Alliance on January 1, 1952, to Lewis and Patsy Leishman, David’s journey began in the heart of Ohio. He married Karen Scheufler Hershberger on October 19, 2007, and she survives him, a testament to the enduring love that defined their union.

Whats Was David Leishman Known For?

David’s formative years led him through the halls of Claymont High School, where he graduated in 1970. A man of many talents, David showcased his musical prowess as a bass guitar player for several local bands, leaving a melodic imprint on the community. His love for music was mirrored in his commitment to the Union Hill of Sugarcreek Church, where he found solace and community.

A dedicated professional, David’s career spanned various fields. From his early days working for Leishman Coal to becoming the owner of Camco from 1974-2005, his entrepreneurial spirit and hard work were evident.

Later, he retired from Long Hole Augering but remained active, working part-time at Lowe’s Home Improvement Store in New Philadelphia. David’s legacy is not only marked by his professional achievements but also by the enduring bonds he created within his family. He is survived by his children, Jeremy Leishman of Phoenix, Arizona, Dane Leishman of New Philadelphia, Alex Leishman of Akron, and Jessica Leishman of New Philadelphia. Additionally, he leaves behind two stepsons, Wesley Hershberger of Fresno and Jeffrey (Kearsten) Hershberger of Baltic.

Who Was David Leishman?

David’s family circle expanded to include grandson Carter Tusa of Andover, Minnesota, and step-granddaughter Winrey Hershberger. He is also survived by the mother of his surviving children, Sheila Scott of New Philadelphia, his former wife, Karen Rae Leishman of Uhrichsville, sister Lori (Roland) Cooper of Newcomerstown, and brothers Danny (Barb) Leishman of New Philadelphia and Randy (Karen) Leishman of Dover. Numerous extended family members mourn his passing as well.
