Steve Hansel Obituary New Orleans LA, Steve Hansel Has Died

Steve Douglas Hansel was born in Charlotte, NC on November 3, 1948. He was the son of Troy Joseph Hansel and Margaret Victoria McGinnis Hansel. Their home was in Mount Holly, NC adjoining the family farm of his grandparents. Steve passed away on August 23.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Gurley Hansel; his sister, Dale Ann Hansel Caldwell; brother-in-law, Timmy Caldwell; niece, Lori Caldwell; nephews, Tim Caldwell Jr, Jonathan Caldwell, and Phillip Caldwell (Laura); grandniece, Harley Caldwell Ladd (C.J.); grandnephews, Khristian Caldwell; and great grandnephews, Bo Ladd and Timmy Ladd. He is also survived by his children, Paula Reisig Ruis (Allen), Betsy Reisig Bullins (Tim), Robert Reisig Jr. (Kelly), and Kim Weintraub; grandchildren, Ashley Bullins Ellington (Cleve)

Celebrating a Legacy: Honoring the Remarkable Journey:

Joe Bullins (Kirsten), Ashley Ruis (Tristan), Bluu Reine, Thomas, William, George, and David Reisig; great grandchildren, Kayden Friddle, Owen and Gabe Ellington He was predeceased by both of his parents, and his brothers, Richard Hansel, Mitchell Hansel, and an infant brother Walter Hansel. He is also predeceased by his wife, Jane Reisig Hansel.

Farewell to a Beloved Soul: Reflecting on the Life:

From childhood, he was a member of First Baptist Church, Mount Holly, NC from the age of 4 or 5 years old. He made his profession of faith at age 9 and was baptized by The Reverend J.D. Williams. He was active in Sunday School and in the youth music and summer baseball programs of this church.

In Memoriam: Remembering the Grace and Strength:

Steve was a 1967 graduate of Mount Holly High School where he excelled and was an honor student. He was elected to multiple leadership positions in school clubs. He was elected to Boys State. He was elected President of the Mount Holly High School student body his senior year. Steve played football, basketball, and baseball and lettered in all three. He was the starting center for three years and also played in linebacker position.

Cherished Memories: A Tribute to the Extraordinary Life:

He was Co-Captain of his football team his senior year and was awarded the Optimist Club trophy for character, scholarship, and leadership. He received his coach Delmer Wiles’ Annual Wind Sprint trophy. He was Captain of his basketball team his senior year and received the Most Valuable Player Trophy and Best Defensive Player Trophy. He was second baseman for this baseball team, and also played American Legion Baseball for Belmont Post 144. He lettered in all three high school sports multiple years.

A Life of Impact: Honoring the Legacy:

Following graduation from Mount Holly High School, he continued his education at UNC-Chapel Hill where he played Freshman Baseball in 1968. Desiring the opportunity to play football, he transferred to Appalachian State University in 1969 where he played for the ASU Mountaineers as linebacker and long snapper positions, lettering all three years there. He graduated in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education.
