On January 21, 2024, the community of Carriere, Mississippi, bid farewell to a beloved member, Daniel Eugene Fraley, affectionately known as Mr. Dan. A pillar of the Hide Away Lake community, Mr. Dan passed away just shy of his 86th birthday, which would have been on February 23. As family and friends gather to celebrate his life, they remember a man whose contributions to his community, love for music, and generous spirit left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Born in Clifford, Illinois, Daniel Eugene Fraley’s journey began on February 23, 1938. Raised in Pekin alongside his father Donald Fraley, mother Wanda Fraley, and brother Ken Fraley, he grew into a man of strength, resilience, and compassion. His early years set the stage for a life dedicated to service. Straight out of high school, Mr. Dan joined the United States Air Force as a Weapons Maintenance Mechanic. His commitment to duty and excellence would become a recurring theme throughout his life.
A Career at Stennis Space Center
After his military service, Mr. Dan embarked on a career at Stennis Space Center. As a Senior Electronic Technician, he distinguished himself, earning multiple Oceanography Equipment Technician awards. His work and dedication to his craft left a lasting impact on the space and technology industry. In the Hide Away Lake community, Mr. Dan was not only a resident but a builder. He constructed his own home and contributed to the construction of several houses in the community. His hands-on approach to building reflected his commitment to creating a strong and vibrant neighborhood.
A Generous and Kind Soul
Mr. Dan’s generosity extended far beyond his professional and construction endeavors. He dedicated his time to delivering Meals on Wheels, ensuring that those in need received nourishment and companionship. His commitment to community service exemplified his kind and giving nature. Music flowed through the veins of Mr. Dan’s life. A talented musician, he played the acoustic guitar and bass guitar. His musical journey spanned across genres, from rock bands in the 60s and 70s to country bands in the 80s and 90s. Later in life, he shared his love for southern gospel music with his church community.
Family Ties and Love for Life
In his tight-knit family, Mr. Dan found solace and joy. Survived by Regina Fraley, Andrea Fraley Wells, Sandra Fraley Stockton, and David Stockton, he shared a bond that went beyond blood. His infectious smile and warmth created a home filled with love and laughter. To honor the memory of Daniel Eugene Fraley, a Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at West Union Baptist Church, located at 560 W Union Road, Carriere, Mississippi. The service, scheduled for 11 am, invites family, friends, and community members to share their cherished memories of Mr. Dan.
