The passing of Gerard Malanga occurred on Saturday, May 14, 2022, when he was 61 years old or older. On February 24, 1961, he was born in Montclair, New Jersey. He was reared by his late parents, Lorenzo and Antoinette, along with his brother Anthony and sister Rita.
He was the youngest of three children. Surviving Gerard are his wife Carrie, his sons Luke and John, his daughters Tara and Grace, his granddaughter Rose, and his son-in-law Augustin. He was also survived by his granddaughter Rose.
A Lifetime of Love and Companionship:
After completing his high school education at Seton Hall Prep, Gerard went on to pursue a degree in Biology at Villanova University. Gerard went on to do a sports medicine residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and eventually became a Senior Associate Consultant there. This occurred after he graduated from the University of New Jersey-New Jersey Medical School in 1987.
Early Life and Education:
He served as the Director of Sports Medicine at Mountainside Hospital, Director of Pain Management at Overlook Hospital, and Director of Sports, Spine, and Orthopedic Rehabilitation at Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation while he was also the Director of Sports Medicine at Mountainside Hospital. A great number of medical professionals looked up to Gerard as a guiding light in the field, and he served as a mentor, a leader, and a friend to them all. Gerard, a physician, devoted his entire life to assisting individuals who were in his immediate vicinity.
Survived by Beloved Relatives:
He founded his own private clinic, which he called New Jersey Sports Medicine, so that he could devote his time to providing care for his patients, paying close attention to what they had to say, and hunting for innovative methods of therapy. In more recent times, he was given the chance to collaborate with his son, Luke, in her place of employment. “Dr. Malanga” was the name he was known by among his patients and those who knew him professionally; nevertheless, his friends and family simply referred to him as “Gerry.” He was kind to his family, neighbors, friends, and anyone else who came to knock on the door when he was at home.
Physical Characteristics & Distinguishing Traits:
His love for his family was the only thing that could compare to his enthusiasm for his career. His role as “Dad” allowed him to take pleasure in activities such as driving Grace to college at a moment’s notice, responding to Tara’s calls even in the middle of the work day, and engaging in collaborative conversations with Luke. Regardless of the subject matter that John presented, he showed a deep interest it. In addition to that, he made it a habit to call his wife on the phone every day as he was driving back from the office.

An intricate web of interpersonal connections:
Throughout the 33 years that they had been married, Gerard’s first thought was always on his wife and the ways in which he might manage to make her smile. Monday evenings spent playing hoops with friends, Sundays spent in Sea Girt, August spent in the Adirondacks, and special vacations to visit his family in Materdomini, Italy, were the times of the week when he made the most happiness.
A Heartfelt Goodbye:
A man who was generous, diligent, and filled with faith, Gerard was a man. On a daily basis, he brought with him an infectious enthusiasm for life as well as a serious and cerebral approach. Most importantly, he was a dedicated husband and father to his family. Through the lives of his family and colleagues, who are continuing to follow in his faith and love, his legacy will go on long after he has passed away
