John Dowling Obituary, Newpark, Portlaoise & Late of Morette, Emo Has Passed Away

John Dowling, a beloved resident of Newpark, Portlaoise, and formerly of Morette, Emo, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 26, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. His departure leaves a profound void in the lives of those who knew and loved him.

John was the devoted husband of Marcella, and a loving father to his daughter Helen (Ging) and son Paul. He was also a cherished father-in-law to Paul and Meaghan. In addition to his immediate family, John was a proud grandfather to Kelly, Heather, Ryan, Milo, and Lily.

He extended his love further as a grandfather-in-law to Sam and Peter, and a great-grandfather to Max, Leo, Henry, Alfie, and Myles. His passing is deeply mourned by his loving family, including brothers, sisters, brothers and sisters-in-law, cousins, nephews, nieces, as well as neighbors and friends who were touched by his presence.

Friends, family, and well-wishers had the opportunity to pay their respects during the repose at Keegan’s Funeral Home on Sunday evening, January 28, from 6:30 pm to 8 pm, where a Rosary was recited at 8 pm.

The funeral service took place on Monday, January 29, with a removal to SS Peter and Paul’s Church, Portlaoise, for a noon Requiem Mass. Following the Mass, John Dowling was laid to rest in SS Peter and Paul’s Cemetery, Portlaoise, marking the final chapter of his earthly journey. In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations to the Irish Cancer Society, reflecting John’s consideration for those facing health challenges.

The act of contributing to a cause dear to his heart serves as a fitting tribute to a man remembered not only for his familial devotion but also for his compassionate spirit that reached beyond his immediate circle. John Dowling’s legacy lives on in the hearts of those who shared in his life’s journey and in the charitable gestures inspired by his memory.
