Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility was the location where Robert “Bob” Vollmer, who was 84 years old and from Ellsworth, passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2024. His parents, Robert Vollmer and Violet Gentz, welcomed him into the world on August 22, 1939 in the city of Detroit.
There are a number of things that may come to mind when you hear the name Bob Vollmer. Some of these things include family, friends, smiles, jokes, candy, and automobiles. Bob stood out to a great number of individuals.
For the past 67 years, Bob has called Ellsworth his home. While he was selling automobiles on the opposite corner to customers from far and near, he began working and finally became the owner of the neighbourhood petrol station that offered complete service.
The first automobiles that Bob has sold to families and friends have been purchased by generations of people. It became his job to find exactly what it was that they were looking for. Simply stating the year, model, and make of the vehicle was all that was required of you. “There is an ass for every seat.”
In his heart, Bob treasured and loved his family. His four sons were the source of endless pride for him. The lives they led and the men they develop into as they grow older. Together with his wife, Judie, Bob Vollmer developed the Vollmer family into what it is today over the course of sixty years. You would have known that Bob couldn’t get enough of his five grandchildren if you really knew him.
Bob was the kind of grandfather who would take his grandchildren on rides on mopeds, who would buy them their first ever sweet treat, and who would go to watch his grandchildren compete in the sports that they enjoyed, even if it meant travelling across the nation. Bob placed such a high value on his family that, during the final week of his life, he told us that he would talk about his family till the very moment he took his last breath after looking at photographs.
