It is with great sadness that we must inform you of the demise of our cherished father and grandfather, Ernest Charles Armitage, who passed away on September 6th, at the age of 84, following a brief battle with illness. On August 23, 1938, Ernie Armitage was born to his parents, Amy and Ernest Armitage, in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Ernie is survived by his daughter Annette, who was also his supper companion; his son Todd, who was his Kubota buddy and was married to Nancy; and his granddaughters Alexa and Hailey, who were the joy of his life.
His parents, Amy and Ernest, as well as the woman he loved the most in the world, Corrine, as well as his daughter, Susanne, three sisters, Beatrice and Dorothy, and three brothers, Freddie Arthur and Jack, all passed away before him. After beginning his career at TP Calkin’s Ltd. and William Stairs Son and Morrow, Ernie spent more than seven decades working in the profession that he cherished.
Subsequently, in 1972, he established EC Armitage Hardware, which is currently commemorating its 50th year in operation. It is said that if you do what you love, you will never have to work a day in your life.
When Ernie is not working, you may find him puttingtering in his gardens, at the garage across the street, at St. James Church, or playing in one of his Kubota tractors. He is doing all of these things because he is living life to the fullest.
His life was lived according to his own terms, and he was a well-respected member of the community. He was a generous and compassionate man who had a wonderful sense of humour. Everyone who had the privilege of knowing him will miss him terribly.
