It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of a beloved father-in-law, Fred Somerton. On Tuesday, January 16th, in Cayo Guillermo, Cuba, Fred left us, surrounded by the comforting presence of his wife Anna, and devoted children, Fred Jr. and Jennifer.
Fred Sr. was more than a father-in-law; he was a cherished husband, a doting father, and a man whose heart overflowed with love for his family. He often expressed his gratitude for being blessed with two loving daughter-in-laws, Jennifer and Francesca, who were an integral part of his extended family.
Born as the eldest among his siblings, Fred leaves behind a legacy of warmth and kinship. He was a loving brother to Barb, Joan, Donna, Bernice, and Norma. As a brother-in-law, he shared special bonds with Doug, Charlie, Joe, and others. His role as an uncle extended to Keith, Kristin, Sarah, Ted, Megan, Bryce, Kyle, Alysha, Stephanie, Christopher, Daniel, William, and many more on the Somerton side. He was also a proud great uncle to Jacob, Jayme Lynn, Jaspal, Isla, Emily, Lillian, Layken, and Talia.Fred’s family extended beyond blood ties, encompassing the Hipson crew. He was a brother-in-law to Frankie, Debbie, Greg, Bart, Brian, Joney, Fenish, Tamara, Jamie, Baxter, Dion, Lucia, Dave, Sue, Frank, and Michelle. He cherished his role in the lives of Sheri, Daniel, Bailey, Amanda, Victoria, Ashley, Dion, Natasha, RJ, Alex, Jeffrey, and was a loving great uncle to Joseph, Marissa, and Rocco on the Hipson side.
A man who found joy in every connection, Fred was happiest surrounded by family and friends. His tales of camaraderie were not just anecdotes but reflections of a life well-lived. Whether engaging in a friendly game of crib with his partner Joan at the Amherst Legion or ensuring the smooth functioning of the legion during his errands with Sharon, Fred was a constant presence, contributing to the fabric of his community.
Over the last six years, Fred discovered a love for travel, embracing new adventures with the enthusiasm that characterized his approach to life. His infectious spirit, warm smile, and genuine kindness will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
