On the 19th of January 2023, the world bid farewell to a remarkable soul, Annie Jane “Jean” McVicker, who passed away peacefully in hospital. She was a devoted wife, a cherished mother, a loving granny, a great granny, and a much-loved sister. Jean’s life was a testament to the enduring power of love, family, and community.

Born into a world that would eventually be touched by her warmth and kindness, Jean became the beloved wife of Bertie McVicker. Their union was a source of strength and support, and Bertie was by her side until the very end. Together, they created a home filled with love, laughter, and unwavering commitment.

Jean’s role as a mother was central to her identity, and she was much loved by her sons, Andrew and Colin. Her influence as a mother extended beyond her immediate family, touching the lives of those around her. Andrew and Colin carry forward not only her name but also the values and lessons she instilled in them. As a loving granny to Kyle, Josh, Beth, and Paul, Jean embraced the joys of grandmotherhood with open arms. Her home was a place of warmth and acceptance, where her grandchildren found comfort and love. The legacy of her love now lives on through the generations, with the addition of great-grandson Oscar.

In addition to her family roles, Jean was a much-loved sister to Ruth. The bond they shared was a testament to the enduring strength of family ties. Through thick and thin, Jean and Ruth stood side by side, creating a foundation of support and companionship that enriched both of their lives.

A service to celebrate the rich and meaningful life of Jean McVicker will take place at Downshire Presbyterian Church, Victoria Road, Carrickfergus, on Wednesday, 24th January 2024, at 10:00 am. Following the service, a committal will be held at Victoria Cemetery, where Jean will find her final resting place.

In lieu of family flowers, the McVicker family kindly requests that donations be made payable to Downshire Presbyterian Church, Victoria Road, Carrickfergus BT38 7JE. These contributions will honor Jean’s memory by supporting the community and place that held a special significance in her heart.

The words “Till we meet again” echo with the promise of reunion, reflecting the enduring spirit of hope and love that defined Jean’s life. As family and friends gather to celebrate her legacy, they do so with gratitude for the joy she brought into their lives and the lasting imprint she leaves on their hearts
