The Blanchard Valley Medical Centre in Findlay was the location where Richard A. Slattman, who was 74 years old and from Continental, passed away at 7:44 a.m. on Thursday, January 18, 2024. He was born in Lima on August 17, 1949, to the late Augustus Slattman and Lois (Tracy) Slattman at the time of his birth. On the 12th of May in 1989, he tied the knot with Brenda Long, who is still resident in Continental.
Other survivors include five children: Troy (Stephanie) Slattman of Napoleon, Tracy (Dennis) Potts, Tabby (Dean) Williamson, Sarah (Patrick) Llewellyn and David (Kelee) Slattman, all of Continental; twelve grandchildren: Taylor (Spencer), Trevor (Brooke), Hunter, Christopher, Gavin (Bree), Madelyn, Brayden, Elias, Elijah, Evie, Gus and Emelynn; two great-grandchildren: Lincoln and Zane; three siblings: Dave (Joanna) Slattman of Continental, Pam (Jimmy Helland) Sigler of Defiance and Sally (Mike) Guilford of Ottawa; and a sister-in-law, Judy Slattman of North Creek.
Gary Slattman and Ida Ankney, two of his siblings, passed away before him. He was also predeceased by an aunt. Richard was a farmer for his entire life and had retired from driving a truck. In addition to that, he was a partner in the bowling alley that was once known as Lucky Lanes & Lounge in Continental.
Within the Sons of the American Legion, Continental, he was a member of the organisation. His favourite sports were bowling, golf, and softball. The time that Richard spent with his friends and family, particularly his grandchildren, was something that he cherished.
On Monday, January 22, 2024, at eleven o’clock in the morning, the funeral service will commence at the HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME in Continental, with Wade Tannehill serving as the officiant. A subsequent interment will take place at Monroe Cemetery in Continental.
The funeral home will be open for visitation on Sunday from two to eight o’clock in the evening, and on Monday, up until one hour before the service begins.
