Renate departed peacefully at her cabin in Ocala, FL, surrounded by the company of her beloved animals and family. A cherished mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, and friend, Renate’s life was a testament to adventure, warmth, and an enduring love for both family and the world around her. Renate leaves behind a legacy of love and connection. She was a devoted mother to her daughter Victoria, a cherished grandmother to Wyatt and Scarlett, and a loving mother-in-law to John Riolo. Renate’s warmth and care extended beyond her immediate family to her brother Alan and his family in England, cousins in Germany, and stepdaughters Gerri and Kathy. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Gilbert Barreras, parents Agnes and her WWII pilot father lost over Russia, and stepdaughter Christy.

Renate had a distinguished career that spanned over 44 years in the aviation industry. She worked for Pan Am Airways until its closure in 1991, and then seamlessly transitioned to working for Delta. Her career not only allowed her to crisscross the globe but also gave her the opportunity to live and work in England and Australia before settling in the United States. Renate’s passion for travel extended beyond her professional life; she was an avid world traveler, exploring different cultures and embracing the diversity of the world.
