On July 22, 1980, a bright light entered this world, and on January 14, 2024, that light unexpectedly dimmed as William “Billy” Hyler III passed away at the age of 43 at his home in McLeansville. In the wake of his unexpected departure, friends and family will gather to celebrate his life at a memorial service at 3 pm on Friday, January 19, 2024, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel in Eden. William, affectionately known as Billy, was born to Penny McBride (Purnell) and the late William Hyler Jr. at Morehead Memorial Hospital. Growing up in Rockingham County, Billy graduated from Rockingham County High School. He continued his education, earning Associate Degrees at Rockingham County Community College and Forsyth Technical College, showcasing his dedication to personal and professional growth.
A Journey in Healthcare
Billy’s professional journey took him through various roles, reflecting his commitment to the well-being of others. From his tenure at Fieldcrest Mills to his contributions at Cone Health, and finally as a CT Technologist at UNC Rockingham, Billy left an indelible mark on the healthcare community. His dedication and expertise in his field were evident to all who had the privilege of working alongside him. Billy’s heart belonged to his family, with his wife Carrie by his side. Their home was filled with love and shared with their special feline companions Ziggy and Zazzy. His mother, Penny Purnell, and his stepfather, Randy, were an essential part of his life, providing support and warmth. Billy shared his journey with his brothers Rusty Purnell, Adam Hyler (Sheli), and Ryan Hyler (Tiffany), creating a bond that transcended time.
Extended Family and Cherished Relationships
Billy’s impact reached beyond his immediate family, touching the lives of his brothers-in-law, John McMaster and Mark McMaster (Dawn), and his sister, Amanda Newsome (Randy). Grandmothers Jean Alderson, Eleanor Hyler, Elaine Lawson, and Nancy McBride shared in his joys and sorrows. Aunts, uncles, and cousins were woven into the fabric of his life, creating a tapestry of love and connection. Beyond human connections, Billy found companionship in his beloved dog Cookie, who shared his joys and provided solace during challenging times. The bond between a person and their faithful canine companion is a testament to the unconditional love that transcends words.
A Life Enriched by Friendships
The impact of a life is often measured by the friendships forged along the way. Billy’s life was enriched by the presence of his life-long best friend, Tim Burchell, and the many friends and colleagues who became part of his extended family. Their shared laughter, experiences, and camaraderie contributed to the richness of his journey. Billy’s departure was preceded by the passing of his father, Billy Hyler Jr., and other dear family members, including his father-in-law John McMaster, mother-in-law Maudene Wilson, grandfathers Billy Hyler Sr. and Bobby McBride, and great-grandparents Howard Westley and Lucinda Hyler.
Celebrating a Life Well-Lived
As friends and family gather at the memorial service, they will collectively celebrate the life of a man who left an enduring legacy of love, laughter, and compassion. The memories shared, the tears shed, and the laughter echoing in the chapel will be a testament to the impact of Billy’s presence in the lives of those who knew him. Though Billy’s physical presence is no longer with us, his light continues to shine in the hearts of those he touched. The love, kindness, and memories he leaves behind will serve as a beacon, guiding those who mourn toward healing and acceptance.
