In the quiet town of New Market, Alabama, the community mourns the loss of Todd Graham Panter, a man whose life was defined by his unwavering faith, dedication to service, and profound love for his family. Todd passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2024, surrounded by those he cherished most, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, leadership, and a deep connection to the land he called home. Born on April 17, 1962, in Jasper, Alabama, to Paul and Billie Ruth Panter, Todd’s journey was marked by a strong sense of purpose and a commitment to making a positive impact on the world around him. In 1967, the Panter family moved to Huntsville, where Todd would eventually become a prominent figure in the community.
A 1980 graduate of Butler High School, Todd’s commitment to service led him to join Huntsville Fire & Rescue in 1988, where he dedicated 25 years of his life to protecting and serving the community. His work as a firefighter showcased his selflessness, courage, and dedication to the well-being of others. Todd’s faith was at the core of his being. A born-again believer, he passionately served the Lord through the ministry he founded in 2007, known as Church Strengtheners. His mission was to support churches and uplift pastors, earning him the title of “a friend to pastors.” Todd believed in the power of faith to bring communities together and to make a positive impact on the lives of individuals.
In addition to his ministry work, Todd served as the Camp Host/Director at Camp MACOBA starting in 2009. Under his guidance, the camp flourished, becoming a place of joy, community, and spiritual growth. His dedication to the Turtle Sanctuary at the camp exemplified his love for nature and the earth, as he found solace and purpose in working with the land. Todd’s connection to the earth was evident in his love for gardening and his role in nurturing the Turtle Sanctuary. He spent countless hours tending to the land, cultivating growth, and creating spaces where others could connect with nature. His passion for hunting and fishing in his younger years translated into a lifelong appreciation for the outdoors. Even in his final year, Todd continued to enjoy fishing, creating cherished memories with his wife Denise on Lake Guntersville.
At the center of Todd’s heart was his family. In 1996, he married Denise, a union that brought immense joy and fulfillment. Their two children, Jocelyn and James, were a source of pride and love for Todd. The arrival of eight grandchildren added even more joy to his life. Despite the challenges, Todd’s love for his family remained unwavering. The passing of his mother, Billie Ruth Panter, and grandson, Everett Samuel Merkel, were heartbreaks Todd faced with resilience and faith. He leaves behind a legacy of strength, love, and a commitment to family values. Visitation for Todd Panter will take place at Lakewood Baptist Church on Sunday, January 21, 2024, at 12:30 p.m., with a funeral service following at 2:30 p.m.
Todd will receive a fitting tribute and interment with honors at Rice Cemetery in New Market, marking his final resting place. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Camp MACOBA’s “What’s Next” fund, a cause that was near and dear to Todd’s heart.
The camp, where many cherished family memories were made, will continue to thrive and serve as a testament to Todd’s enduring legacy. As the community gathers to remember Todd Graham Panter, they reflect on a life that touched hearts, strengthened faith, and left an indelible mark on the tapestry of New Market. In the face of sorrow, Todd’s spirit of love, service, and devotion lives on, inspiring those who were privileged to know him.
