On January 15th, 2024, the heavenly choir gained a new voice as Homer Lee “Buster” Wasden, III, entered into his eternal home. Born on May 9th, 1937, in Columbus, Georgia, to Homer Lee Wasden, Jr. and Catherine Seay Wasden, Buster’s journey through life was marked by a deep commitment to service, an unwavering faith, and boundless love for his family. Buster’s family moved to Albany during his third-grade year, setting the stage for a lifetime of community impact in this Southern city. A graduate of Albany High School, Buster’s high school years were marked by his participation in the track team and membership in the school band.
Little did he know that the next chapter of his life would unfold in the form of love when he met Brenda Gail Martin. Their love story blossomed, leading to marriage in 1959 and the joyous addition of two children, Michael Lee Wasden and Cathy Lynn Wasden. In his youth, Buster exemplified the values of the Boy Scouts of America, achieving the highest honor of Eagle Scout. His dedication to scouting laid the groundwork for his later role as a leader in the organization. A talented swimmer, Buster attended Valdosta State University, where he joined the swim team and showcased his vocal talents as a member of the university Serenaders. In 1959, he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Music, beginning a lifelong commitment to service and community.
