Ernestine Jeffris Obituary, Read More About Ernestine Jeffris Passing

Ernestine B. Jeffris, a beloved member of the community and a cherished resident of Marshall Place, passed away on Monday, January 15, 2024, at the Katherine Luther Home. She had been a resident of the home for the past two weeks. Ernestine, aged 93, was born on August 24, 1930, on the family farm in the Town of Verona, the daughter of Joseph R. and Edith M. House Butler.

Having spent her entire life in the area, Ernestine graduated from the former Verona High School, and her roots ran deep in the community that she called home. On January 8, 1949, she married Glen A. Jeffris in Oneida, sharing a loving union until Glen’s passing on November 5, 2015.

Ernestine found joy in various activities, with a particular passion for oil painting and solving crossword puzzles. However, above all, family gatherings held a special place in her heart, and she cherished the time spent with her loved ones.

Surviving Ernestine are her two daughters, Carol (Mel) Mack of Oneida Castle and Ruth Ann (Ed) Schulze of New York Mills. Additionally, her son-in-law, Joel Thomas of Vernon, remains to carry her memory forward. Ernestine’s legacy extends through her five grandchildren: Chad Mack, Todd Thomas, Tara Chadderdon, Nathan, and Jared Hartman. Her surviving siblings include her sister, Florence La Rock of Oneida, and her brother, John (Linda) Butler of Oneida. Furthermore, Ernestine is survived by eleven great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Throughout her life, Ernestine touched the lives of those around her with warmth, love, and a genuine spirit. Her contributions to her community, coupled with her love for family, created a lasting impact that will be remembered and cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

The passing of Ernestine B. Jeffris marks the end of a life well-lived, filled with love, laughter, and the bonds of family. As the community mourns her loss, the memories of her kindness and the legacy she leaves behind will continue to inspire and uplift those who were fortunate enough to be part of her journey. In honoring her memory, we celebrate a life rich in love and dedication to family and community.
