On Tuesday, January 16, 2024, surrounded by the comforting presence of her family and the tender melodies of caretakers singing, Cheryl Dawnette “Nettie” Leedy gracefully transitioned into God’s glory, crossing the river to Heaven. Her departure marked the end of a life that had been a beacon of strength, resilience, and unwavering dedication to family, work, and faith. Dawnette’s journey through life was a testament to her tenacity and spirit. A graduate of Hope Haven, she embarked on a 38-year career with J-VAC Industries, where her dedication shone brightly until her health declined. Her commitment to her work mirrored her approach to life – with steadfast determination and a heart full of compassion.
A lifelong member of Christ’s Church, Dawnette’s spiritual journey began in the embrace of the Jackson Christian Church and later found a home in the Jackson Church of Christ. Her church family held a special place in her heart, providing a sense of community, love, and support that sustained her throughout her life. Beyond her professional and spiritual endeavors, Nettie found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Traveling, spending time with family, and immersing herself in the melodies of Elvis, Johnny Cash, and Conway Twitty brought her immense happiness. Her diverse interests included watching westerns, cartoons, and ballgames.
A loyal supporter of the Dallas Cowboys and the Cincinnati Reds, Nettie’s enthusiasm for sports reflected her vibrant and spirited personality. Whether engaged in a friendly card game, board game, or enjoying an evening of bowling, she embraced every moment with a contagious zest for life. Nettie is survived by her loving father, Donald Leedy, who dedicated his life to caring for her with unwavering devotion. She leaves behind cherished siblings: Melinda Leedy, Sheila Leedy, Carol (David) Williams, Micah (Susan) Leedy, and Benjamin Reese.
Nettie’s nieces and nephews – Gabriel, Rachel, Gayle, Isaac, Josiah, Elisha Jane, Samuel, Israel, Levi, and Sarah Laverne Williams – carry on her legacy with fond memories and the values she instilled in them. Her joy extended to grandnieces and grandnephews: Genevieve, Halayna, Elvira, Lainey, Festus, Kai, Koa, Rydge, and one on the way. In the tapestry of Nettie’s life, there are threads of love, resilience, and an enduring spirit that touched everyone she encountered.
Her journey was marked by profound loss as well, with the passing of her beloved mother, Letha (Hughes) Leedy, and nephew, Nathan Leedy. Their memories are woven into the fabric of Nettie’s legacy, a testament to the strength that can emerge from navigating through the depths of grief.
During Nettie’s final days, the family expresses their deepest gratitude to the hospice staff and, in particular, a remarkable caretaker, Tonya Boyer. Tonya’s unwavering presence and compassionate care provided comfort and solace to Nettie and her family, creating a serene environment for her peaceful transition.
