 In the quiet town of West Terre Haute, a community gathers to remember and celebrate the life of a remarkable man, Billy Ray Selvia, who passed away peacefully in his residence on Sunday, January 14, 2024, at the age of 78. Born on May 29, 1945, to Luther Selvia and Mary Fortune Selvia, Billy’s journey through life was marked by a deep commitment to family, community service, and a passion for various endeavors. Billy Ray Selvia was a true Terre Haute native, having been born and raised in this close-knit community.

Entrepreneurial Spirit and Community Engagement

Billy’s professional journey was as diverse as his interests. He became the proud owner of Macksville Laundry in West Terre Haute, showcasing an entrepreneurial spirit that contributed to the local business landscape. Simultaneously, he worked at the Rockville Correctional Center, demonstrating his commitment to service and contributing to the well-being of the broader community. One of the defining aspects of Billy’s life was his involvement in Masonry. As a 33rd degree Mason, he was an esteemed member of the West Terre Haute Masonic Lodge F & AM.

Passions Beyond Profession

Billy’s love for community and hobbies extended beyond his professional and service-oriented roles. An avid fisherman, he took on the role of tournament director for the Indiana Bass Club, fostering camaraderie and sportsmanship among fellow fishing enthusiasts. Additionally, he was a devoted fan of open wheel racing, immersing himself in the excitement and thrills of the sport. At the center of Billy’s heart was his beloved wife, Diana Halstead Selvia. Their love story spanned an impressive 59 years, filled with shared joys, challenges, and an unwavering commitment to each other. Together, they created a foundation of love and support that would sustain them through the various chapters of life.

Legacy of Family

Billy leaves behind a legacy of love, family, and cherished memories. His children, Greg Selvia and Lauri Fritz, reflect the values instilled in them by their father. Greg’s marriage to Trudy expanded the family, and together they navigate life’s journey. Four grandchildren Brand Selvia, Gabrielle Selvia, Creed Fritz, and Christopher Fritz carry forward the family’s traditions, becoming a testament to Billy’s enduring influence. As the community gathers to honor Billy’s memory, they also remember two precious souls who departed before him his daughter Kristen Rae Selvia-Butler and granddaughter Rae-Ann Fritz. Their spirits continue to be a part of the Selvia family narrative, adding layers to the tapestry of remembrance.

Farewell and Celebration of Life

Funeral services will be held at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 North 3rd St., West Terre Haute, on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at 7:00 PM. Billy’s daughter-in-law, Trudy Selvia, will share reflections on his life. A private family burial is scheduled for Friday, January 19, 2024, at Roselawn Memorial Park. The visitation will take place at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, providing an opportunity for friends and well-wishers to pay their respects. As West Terre Haute comes together to bid farewell to Billy Ray Selvia, the community embraces the memories, lessons, and impact he left behind.
