After a lengthy stay at Stonecroft Nursing Home, Roy Kenneth Reed, who was 90 years old at the time of his death, passed away at 7:36 a.m. on Sunday, September 10th, 2023. His parents, Joseph E. “Ike” Reed and Lotta Roberta McDougal Reed, welcomed him into the world on June 19th, 1933 in the city of Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
In addition to being a member of the American Legion and the Operating Engineers Local 841, Roy was a veteran of the United States Air Force who had participated in the Korean War.
He spent his entire life working for a variety of local construction companies before he and his two sons established their own construction business, which was called Reed and Sons Construction. A sports enthusiast, Roy coached a large number of boys from Boys Club all the way through their teenage years in a variety of sports, including baseball, football, basketball and soccer. For BHSS, he even managed the “chain gang” that was present at football games. During his years of retirement, he found great pleasure in watching dirt car racing.
Gloria Jean Reed, Roy’s wife of 57 years, and their two sons, Kenneth “Bucko” Reed (Jeannie Sturgis Reed) and Roy Shannon Reed (Sondra McGlothlin Reed), are among the people he leaves behind. In addition to his five grandkids, Chelsea, Brooke, Colby, Kayli, and Carly, Roy is survived by his sister Joyce Wilson (Bobby), his sister-in-laws Theresa Reed and Janice Carlisle (Bill), Carol Winans (Clark), and his brother-in-law Jeffrey Swafford, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
One of Roy’s sons, Gerald Stacey Reed, as well as four of his siblings, William Ed Reed, Mary Stamps (BR), Helen Dean Estep (Harold), and Vannie Mae Morgan (Bill), passed away before him. The Allen Funeral Home, located at 4155 S. Old State Road 37, Bloomington, Indiana 47401, will be the location of the visitation that will take place on Sunday, September 17th, 2023 from 3pm to 7pm.
A service will be held for one hour prior to the funeral ceremony, which will take place on Monday, September 18th, 2023 at eleven o’clock in the morning. Next, the burial will take place at the Clover Hill Cemetery.
