Grace Campanella Obituary Kennebunk Maine, Grace Campanella Has Passed Away -Death

It is with heavy hearts and tearful eyes that we remember the vibrant and spirited soul, Grace Elizabeth Campanella, who departed this world on January 11, 2024, at the age of 22. Grace, a force of energy, light, and laughter, left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her. Today, we gather not just to mourn her passing but to celebrate the beautiful life she lived.

Grace was born on September 21, 2001, in Worcester, MA, to her loving parents, Kevin and Karen Campanella. She spent her early years in Wells, ME, attending local schools until she graduated from Kennebunk High School in 2020. Grace’s journey led her to the University of Rhode Island, where she pursued her passion for Animal Science on a tennis scholarship. Little did we know, the tennis court was not only where she showcased her athletic prowess but also where her resilient spirit shone brightest.

Her dedication to animals was evident in her volunteer work at Safe Haven Animal Rescue in Wells, the Animal Welfare Society in Kennebunk, and an internship at the Kennebunk Veterinary Hospital. At URI, she developed a particular affection for farm animals, a love she brought back home, manifested in the family’s silkie chickens.

On the tennis court, Grace was a force to be reckoned with – a tenacious lefty, a high-ranking junior player, and a two-time state champion. Her “never give up” personality echoed through her every match, resonating with everyone who witnessed her determination. Tennis, however, is an individual sport, and despite the support surrounding her, mental illness emerged as the opponent she couldn’t conquer.

Beyond the tennis court, Grace found solace in the world of books and bookstores. She was drawn to stories with strong female lead characters, and her imagination would have undoubtedly crafted an incredible book series had she chosen a different path.

Despite her radiant exterior, Grace grappled with mental health challenges, a struggle that remained largely concealed from the world. Her family, the ones who knew and loved her most, witnessed the silent battle she fought. Despite their efforts to support and encourage her, mental illness proved to be a formidable adversary.

In her memory, Grace leaves behind an extensive collection of books, cherished family members, including her parents, Kevin and Karen, sister Rosemary, and her beloved pets – Penny, Dexter, and Delilah, the therapy hamster. Her legacy also includes six silkie chickens, a testament to her enduring love for animals. Grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends mourn the loss of a bright soul that touched each of their lives in a unique way.

Grace’s departure reminds us of the importance of reaching out and seeking help when faced with mental health struggles. Her family wishes she had shared more of her burden with them, emphasizing the love and support available to her had she reached out. The void left by her absence is immeasurable, and the collective grief of those who loved her is profound.

As we remember Grace Campanella, let us also reflect on the impact mental health can have on even the brightest spirits among us. May her story inspire conversations about mental health, encourage openness, and foster a community that supports one another through life’s challenges. Grace, your light will forever shine in our hearts, and the echoes of your laughter will remain eternally cherished.
