On the 12th of January, 2024, the community of Kershaw, South Carolina, mourned the loss of a beloved member, William Roger Dixon, aged 74. Surrounded by his devoted family, Mr. Dixon departed this world, leaving behind a legacy of service, dedication, and a deep love for both family and community.

Born in Darlington County, South Carolina, Roger was the son of the late William Melvin Dixon and Annie Mae Stevens Dixon. From an early age, he displayed qualities that would define his character throughout his life—determination, resilience, and a commitment to serving others. These attributes were evident in his years of service to his country as a proud member of the United States Army.

Roger’s contributions extended beyond his military service. He dedicated a significant portion of his life to the workforce, initially at Wateree Textile Corporation and later with the Kershaw County School District. His work ethic and commitment were exemplary, earning him the respect and admiration of colleagues and friends alike.

Guided by a strong faith, Roger was a member of the Methodist community and actively participated in the worship and fellowship at Buffalo Baptist Church. His faith was a source of strength and solace throughout his life, providing a moral compass that guided his actions and interactions with others.

In addition to his professional and spiritual pursuits, Roger was a man of many talents and hobbies. His love for woodworking manifested in the special gifts he crafted for his grandchildren—rocking horses that undoubtedly became cherished symbols of his craftsmanship and love. Each creation was a testament to his skills and the genuine joy he found in bringing happiness to his family.

Beyond the confines of his workshop, Roger’s interests included a passion for travel. Exploring new places and experiencing different cultures brought him immense joy, creating lasting memories for himself and his loved ones. His ability to find joy in life’s simple pleasures was reflected in the time he spent tinkering with his classic Chevelle—a labor of love that showcased his appreciation for the craftsmanship and artistry of automobiles.
