Ingraham, Illinois, mourns the loss of a beloved community member, Rondle Allan Cowger, who passed away at the age of 92 on Friday, January 12, 2024, at the Flora Gardens Care Center in Flora, Illinois. As we bid farewell to a remarkable individual, it is important to reflect on the legacy and contributions of a man who touched the lives of many.
Rondle was born on September 25, 1931, in Rural Jasper County, Illinois, the son of Laurence H. and Olga (Beckwith) Cowger. His journey unfolded against the backdrop of a changing world, and he left an indelible mark on his community and country. A true patriot, Rondle served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean War. His commitment to duty and service was a testament to his character and a source of pride for those who knew him.
On February 12, 1955, Rondle married Mabel Kepley, and together they shared nearly 69 years of a loving and enduring marriage. His dedication to family was evident not only in his role as a devoted husband but also as a loving father and grandfather. Rondle’s contributions to his community were diverse and impactful. He drove a school bus for the Ingraham Grade School, ensuring the safe transport of countless children.
Additionally, he played a pivotal role in the construction and management of the Kennedy Grain Elevator in Ingraham, where he dedicated years of hard work until his retirement in March of 1981. Following his retirement, Rondle continued to contribute to the workforce, driving a truck for Cox Brothers Trucking of Newton for an additional 20 years. Simultaneously, he maintained his commitment to farming and livestock, showcasing his resilience and work ethic.
Rondle is survived by his loving wife, Mabel Cowger; his son, Gordon (Vickey) Cowger of Teutopolis; his daughter, Laural (Brett) Ackerman of Newton; his daughter-in-law, Glenda Cowger of Wheeler; and his grandchildren: Darlene Coffin, Jacque Holsapple, Jacob Cowger, Brittany Ackerman, Reid Ackerman, and Tia Cowger. He also leaves behind great-grandchildren: Jonathan Coffin, Sarah Coffin, Rachel Coffin, Grant Ackerman, Meredith Ackerman, and Blake Ackerman.
While Rondle’s passing is a somber moment for those who knew him, it is essential to celebrate the rich tapestry of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Stephen Cowger, sister Dorothy Elmore, and great-grandson Mitchell Coffin. Their memories, along with the stories and experiences shared by those who knew Rondle, will forever be cherished.
