His parents, James Allen Seritt and Ethel Cleo Seritt, welcomed him into the world on March 9, 1938 in Floyd County, Georgia. Seri HA was their son. When Ray was dismissed from the United States Air Force, he was stationed at Moody Air Force Base in Macon, Georgia.
He had served in the United States Air Force from October 1, 1956 to December 1, 1959, first at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois, and then in Iceland. Ray was a member of the New Town Baptist Church when he attended services there. After retiring, he worked as an independent truck driver for his own company.
Ray is survived by his two sons, Russ Seritt of Merritt Island, Florida, and Brian Seritt (Mitzi) of Knoxville, Tennessee. Both of his sons are named after him.
Additionally, he is survived by his devoted companion Bettye Gilbert, who resides in Calhoun, Georgia. Bryce, Ty, Jaxon, and Allie Seritt are the descendants of the Seritt family. Faye Griffith of Lagrange, Georgia, Vickie Moore (Jerry) of Calhoun, Georgia, Lisa Seritt of Adairsville.
Georgia, and Sandra Lowery of Louisville, Georgia, as well as a number of nieces and nephews, as well as his extended family, which includes his sons Larry Gilbert (Sandy) and Michael Gilbert (Sherri), his grandchildren Terry Weldon (Renae), Matthew and his wife Kira, his grandchildren Hunter and McKenzie Gilbert, and great-grandchildren Chloe Rice and Brynlee Weldon.
On Tuesday, November 15, from four o’clock to seven o’clock, the family will be present at Thomas Funeral Home to greet friends. On Wednesday, November 16, he will lie in state at New Town Baptist Church beginning at ten in the morning and continuing until the services begin at eleven in the morning.
Stacy Hensley, one of the Chaplains of Home Spun Hospice Group, will preside over the service, and Faye Pierce Bently and her family will provide the musical accompaniment. in 2:00 p.m., the service of interment will take place in the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia.
