Sadly, a woman from Ladysmith has gone away as a result of a fatal two-car collision that occurred on Tuesday between Cameron and Barron at the intersection of County Road W and 18th Street. It has been determined that Elizabeth Steward is the person who was killed. It is alleged that Elizabeth Steward, who was 32 years old, passed away as a result of the injuries she had in the car accident.
On Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at 6:58 p.m., the Barron County 911 Centre received many calls about a two-car accident that occurred at the intersections of County Road W and 18th Street. This intersection is situated between Barron and Cameron.
There were also deputies from the Barron County Sheriff’s Department who responded to the incident. They were joined by personnel from the Wisconsin State Patrol, the Barron Police Department, Mayo Ambulance, the Barron Fire Department, the Cameron Fire Department, the Barron County First Responders, and the Life Link Helicopter.
New Auburn resident Braden Thomas, who was 19 years old at the time, was operating a truck that was travelling eastbound on County Road West when Elizabeth Steward’s truck, which was travelling north on 18th Street, failed to stop at the stop sign that was located at County Road West.
In the aftermath of the collision, both vehicles were found in a field, with Thomas’s truck being flipped over and Steward’s truck being completely consumed by flames.
The two drivers were assisted by witnesses who came to a stop and helped them. Among other things, Steward was rescued from her flaming automobile. On-site medical support was made available to the patient.
While Steward was pronounced deceased at the scene, Thomas was sent to a neighbouring hospital for treatment of injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening. Investigation into the crash is still ongoing by the Wisconsin State Patrol. More than four hours were spent with County Road W being closed, which was made possible with the assistance of the Barron County Highway Department.
