As part of his assignment for the Detroit Free Press, Kirt Dozier Sr. was expected to take photographs at the Rose Bowl on New Year’s Day 2019. Instead, he watched it from a hospital bed with his children, giving them the opportunity to experience a major sporting event together for the first time in a very long time.
Kirt Dozier Jr., the son, stated that he was the one who was responsible for dropping off his father at the airport. The fact that he was there to see Michigan’s victory was very cool.
In recognition of the significance of the situation, the hospital staff members who had been attempting to drive them away every day at eight o’clock p.m. turned a blind eye to the fact that they were working overtime.
According to Kirt Jr., “He was glued to it,” and it turned out to be the game that he wouldn’t play again. The freezer, along with Dozier’s ice shanty and his boat that is 25 feet long, may be found in the garage of his Eastpointe residence.
After a brief bout with illness, Dozier Sr., who was 65 years old and had covered thousands of professional, collegiate, and high school sports as well as multiple Olympics for the Free Press over the course of 28 years, passed away on Friday. “and a freezer full of fish that we’ve got to give away,” said Dozier Jr., 34, of Eastpointe.
He leaves behind a wife of not quite two years, two children who are successful and athletic, an infinite amount of photographs that are framed and hung in basements and barrooms, and a freezer full of fish.
