The Wynwood House at Salem Hill Haven was the location where Kathleen Miranda “Springer” Wert, who had previously resided in Smullton, died away on Friday, February 18, 2022. Having been born in Millheim on October 13, 1927, Kathleen was the daughter of Simon Peter Springer and Ruth McCool Wilkinson Springer, both of whom passed away before her birth.
She tied the knot with Merle W. Wert on November 10, 1945, and he passed away seventeen years before she did, on October 17, 1999.
Following her graduation from the once known East Penns Valley High School, Kathleen spent a significant amount of time working at the Millheim Hosiery Mill. Following that, she worked as an operator in the copy centre of the Engineering Department at Penn State University, where she remained employed until she retired after twenty-five years of service.
Following her retirement, Kathleen went back to work at Burkholder’s Country Market, where she worked as a cashier. She enjoyed the opportunity to interact with customers and make new friends. Additionally, she retired from her position there after approximately twenty-six years of service.
Spending time with her family was something that Kathleen cherished doing when she was not working. Kathleen is survived by her three sons, Jeffry (Gloria) of Centre Hall, Roger “Keno” (Brenda) of Pleasant Gap, and Greg “Tuff” (Peg) of Spring Mills; seven granddaughters, two step grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren; and seven grandchildren.
The following individuals passed away before her: a grandson named Dustin Wert; two brothers named William and Robert Springer; five half-brothers named Sherwood Springer, Walter, Harry and John Wilkinson, and Randall Stump; and a half-sister named Elaine Springer, who was newborn at the time of her passing.
