Gene Widener Obituary, Gene Widener Has Passed Away – Death

Gene Raymond Widener, who resided in Abingdon, Virginia, passed away at his home on Thursday, August 29, 2019. He was 87 years old at the time of his passing. He was born to J. Raymond Widener and Marie Mock Widener on March 31, 1932. Both of his parents have since died away. He was named after his mother.

As a veteran of the United States Army, Gene has a wealth of experience in the military. In addition to being a member of the Abingdon United Methodist Church, he was also a recipient of his retirement from Texaco Oil Company.

Gene’s parents had already passed away before he was born, but he was also preceded in death by his devoted wife of 34 years, Jeannine Davenport Widener, as well as his son, Raymond Widener.

Those who are left behind include his step-son Jimmy D. Thompson, Jr. and his wife Paula, who reside in Abingdon, Virginia; his step-daughter Cindy Thompson Robinette and her husband Stan, who reside in Corona, California; his sister Betty Smeltzer, who resides in Idaho; his two granddaughters, Kaitlyn Robinette Robinson of Bonney Lake, Washington, and Rebecca Robinette of Corona, California; and a number of relative relatives.

There will be a service held at the graveside at Forest Hills Memory Gardens on the afternoon of Friday, August 30, 2019, at three o’clock. The service will take place at the Memorial Gardens. A ceremony that will be presided over by the Reverend Jerry A. Eggers will take place.

Honour guards from the Highlands Veterans Honour Guard and the Virginia National Guard will be the ones to carry out the military honours for the person who is being honoured.
