On May 1, 2021, Mercedes Mary Hasenmiller, who resided in Davenport and was 97 years old, died away in serenity. It is planned that the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home will help in the private family service that will be held.
Angel and Cecilia Casteleiro welcomed their daughter Mercedes into the world on November 7th, 1923 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In 1941, she received her diploma from the Immaculate Conception Academy, and on February 23, 1943, she officially tied the knot with Robert Joseph Hasenmiller.
While she was raising her children and being the owner of a family business, she also remained active in the BVM Alumni Association and was a member of the St. Paul the Apostle parish. Later on, she worked as a legal secretary.
Her life was full. She established the retail firm Merry Merchants in Dunedin, Florida, after relocating to the state of Florida.
She had a passion for composing poetry, enjoyed playing bridge, and was a voracious reader who read the New York Times from beginning to end. Before she passed away, she read the entire newspaper. Her tenacity, progressive attitude, quick wit, and affection touched the lives of a great number of people.
The memory of her will be cherished, and she will be sorely lost. Members of her family, including her children David Hasenmiller, Janet (Bruce) Gosser, Heidi (William Scott) Walker, Ann Hupp, and Moira Noth, are participating in the celebration of her life.
