Lewis “Lou” Powell Obituary, Death And Funeral Visitaion

In the heart of Trevose, a community comes together to celebrate the life of a beloved figure, Lewis “Lou” Powell, a Life Member who left an indelible mark on the fabric of the community. The arrangements for Lou’s memorial reflect not just the passing of a 77-year-old man but the honoring of a life rich with service, dedication, and love. Lou peacefully passed away on Friday, January 5, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. As we embark on the journey to remember Lou, let us delve into the chapters of his remarkable life.

Born in Abington, Lou’s roots were deeply embedded in the local soil. His formative years were spent in Trevose, a community that would become the canvas upon which he painted his legacy. A graduate of Bensalem High School and Bucks County Community College, Lou’s commitment to education mirrored his lifelong dedication to growth and learning. Lou’s journey took a patriotic turn as he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, stationed in the rugged beauty of Alaska for three years. This chapter of his life, marked by duty and service, laid the foundation for the unwavering commitment he would later demonstrate in his community.

For 44 years, Lou became a familiar face at the Feasterville Post Office, where he served as one of the most popular Postal Clerks. His role went beyond the job description; he became a cornerstone of the community, a friendly presence that brightened the days of those who crossed his path. However, it was within the Trevose Fire House that Lou truly found his calling. A lifetime member for 60 years, Lou’s journey began at the young age of 12 when he became one of the original 911 operators at the Fire House. From there, he became an integral part of the Trevose Fire Company Heavy Rescue Team, showcasing his bravery and commitment to serving others.

Throughout his tenure as a volunteer fireman, Lou’s contributions extended beyond the frontlines of emergencies. He took on roles as the Video/Photographer, documenting the milestones and achievements of the community. His lens captured the essence of joy during weddings, the pride of graduations, the solemnity of confirmations and communions, and the purity of Baptisms. Lou’s dedication to preserving these moments earned him not just admiration but a special place in the hearts of those he documented. Lou’s commitment to the Trevose Fire Company did not go unnoticed. He received numerous awards and commendations for his selfless service, a testament to the impact he had on the safety and well-being of his community.

Behind the lens, Lou’s family stood as the center of his universe. Preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Doris Powell, and his brothers William (Marty) Powell and Donald (Kathy) Powell, Lou leaves behind a legacy of love. His wife of 50 years, Mary Powell, shared a lifetime of joys, challenges, and unwavering support with Lou. Their golden anniversary, celebrated on December 29, 2023, became a testament to the enduring bond they forged over five decades. Lou’s family extends beyond the walls of his home. Surviving him are his sister Vera, his four children, Daniel, James, Christina, and Melissa (Francesco), and his four grandchildren, Alyssa, Jackson, Francesco Jr., and Gage Stephen. Additionally, his honorary son Dan Walker and granddaughter Megan Hom stand as living testaments to the extended family Lou nurtured through friendship and love.

To honor the life of Lou Powell, a Memorial Service will be held at Trevose Fire Company, Twining Hall, 4900 E. Street Road, Trevose, PA 19053 on Monday, January 15th, 2024, at 3 PM. The Last Alarm Bell Ringing Ceremony will be a poignant moment, resonating with the echoes of Lou’s service and dedication. As the community gathers to say their farewells, may the Memorial Service become a canvas of shared memories, laughter, and reflections on a life that touched so many.

The Last Alarm Bell Ringing Ceremony will serve as a solemn acknowledgment of Lou’s selfless contributions and the profound impact he had on the safety and well-being of the community. Rest in Peace, dear Lou; your legacy lives on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know and love you.
