Former National Football League linebacker Jack Squirek, who was a member of the Los Angeles Raiders and won a Super Bowl in 1984, has passed away. He was 64 years old. In Super Bowl XVIII, Squirek played a significant role in the triumph of the Los Angeles Raiders. He intercepted Washington quarterback Joe Theismann and then made a pick-six from 12 yards out, which gave the Raiders a lead of 21-3. The final score was 38-9 in favour of Los Angeles.

“The Raiders Family is mourning the loss of Jack Squirek, who passed away on Friday,” the Raiders announced in a statement that was released on Saturday. An integral part of one of the greatest plays in the history of professional football, Squirek played with the Raiders for four years and was a key component in the play. Following his first four seasons in the National Football League (1982–1985) with the Los Angeles Rams, Squirek began his career with the Miami Dolphins, where he played in two games during the 1986 season. Squirek achieved three sacks, one interception, and two fumble recoveries throughout the course of his career, which included 55 regular-season games played with the Raiders and Dolphins, eight of which were starts.
