Shirley Roderick Obituary, A Life Lived With Passion And Purpose – Death

It is with a broken heart that I share the news that my beloved mother, Shirley Roderick, passed away suddenly on 12/31/2023. If you’ve ever met me you know I love my Mama. We were rarely seen apart. Like the genteel Southern woman she was, she was often referred to respectfully as “Ms Shirley”. She was Everybody’s Mama in whatever office she worked in.
She was regal, independent, loving, generous, kind and smart. A fantastic dresser and a classic beauty. She loved antiques and great conversation.
But she loved nothing more than her grandchildren- Jagger and Chloe. My children called her “Ninny”— Jagger came up with that one when he could barely crawl. She has been a part of every significant memory of their entire lives and mine.
She wanted us to have the best of everything. She sacrificed for me, she showed up for me, she prayed for me through my triumphs and my downfalls…and she did it all with grace. She gave me the best of herself in her 78 years and for that I’m grateful. I had a good one. The Best One. And for that I’m blessed. Love you eternally, Mama. Shirley Roderick (8/23/1945 – 12/31/2023)
The Celebration of Life service for Shirley Roderick will be held at Serenity Funeral Home (1638 Sycamore View Road, Memphis, TN 38134) on Saturday January 13th at 12noon. A visitation will take place 11am to 12noon that same day.
Her burial will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery (5668 Poplar Avenue, Memphis TN 38119) followed by a repast for family and close friends at Serenity after the burial.
Please keep my family in your prayers.
