Jane Howington Obituary Augusta GA, Jane Howington Has Passed Away -Death

Augusta, Georgia mourns the loss of a beloved community member, Jane Wilson Howington, who passed away on January 3, 2024. Born on April 18, 1942, in Lake City, South Carolina, Jane’s life was marked by a spirit of courage, independence, and indomitability, characteristics she inherited from her late mother, June Ham Wilson.

The Howingtons were not only partners in marriage but also in service. From 1963 to 1990, they led Young Life clubs, with Jane playing a pivotal role in leading many young girls to Christ. Her impact extended beyond her immediate family, touching the lives of countless individuals in the Augusta community.

Jane Wilson Howington will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her dedication to family, and her commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of those around her. As Augusta grieves the loss of a beloved resident, the legacy of Jane Howington will continue to shine through the lives she touched and the memories she leaves behind.

Jane’s legacy lives on through her family, including her loving husband, Jerry, two devoted sons, Jay (Cathy) and Jed (Heather), and six adoring grandchildren—Whitt (Virginia), Mason, Locke, Hamm, Meg, and Vivi Cate. Her beloved poodle, Tassie X, and dear friend, Anna Taylor (the Wonderful Diane), were also cherished companions in her life’s journey. The Howington family moved to Augusta when Jane was a child, and she attended Richmond County schools.

It was during her high school years at ARC that she met Jerry Wayne Howington through a Young Life club. Their shared faith in Jesus Christ became the foundation of a deep and lasting bond. Graduating in 1960, Jane pursued higher education at Wheaton College in Illinois, but love called her back to the south, where she joined Jerry at the University of Georgia.

They were married on December 19, 1961, and, after graduating together in 1963, they returned to Augusta to embark on a life filled with love and purpose.

Jane’s career was marked by a commitment to education and service. She served as the student activities director for the Barrett School of Nursing and later taught world history at North Augusta High School while Jerry pursued his education at the Medical College of Georgia (MCG) and interned.

Their adventures continued when Jerry served in the Air Force and was stationed in Thailand. Jane, displaying her adventurous spirit, followed him and lived in Bangkok for a year. During her time in Thailand, she not only embraced the local culture but also learned to speak Thai and became adept at bargaining with street vendors.
