As we ushered in the new year of 2024, the air was heavy with sorrow as we received the heartbreaking news of the passing of Jaimz Asmundson, a cherished friend and a significant figure in our community. Jaimz, the other half and founding member of Ghost Twin, left us at the age of 43, leaving a void that will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to his wife and fellow band member, Karen, as we collectively mourn the loss of a talented musician, filmmaker, and a dear friend. Reflecting on the memories we shared with Jaimz, many of us can trace our connections back to the late ’90s. For some, it was at Wellingtons in 1998, where the paths of fate crossed, and friendships were forged.
Perhaps it was during that time that Jaimz’s first band, Subterfuge, graced the stage after being booked for their inaugural performance. Little did we know then that Jaimz’s journey would intertwine with ours for years to come. Ghost Twin, the musical collaboration between Jaimz and Karen, became a force to be reckoned with in our scene. Their innovative sound and captivating performances captured the essence of dark music, drawing fans from far and wide.
Plans for a New Year’s Eve performance at Dark Eighties were unfortunately dashed due to health problems, marking a poignant moment in their musical journey. Their final performance took place at Ogreminds Goths & Freaks: Homecoming 2023, an event that holds a special place in the hearts of those who attended. NovaHeart, with mates Sonya Oliveira and Lou Valcourt, had the honor of opening for Ghost Twin, creating an unforgettable night filled with lasers, lights, and fog.
