Kestutis Griskelis Obituary, A Life Dedicated To Service – Death

On May 6, 2023, the world bid farewell to a true American hero, Kestutis “Kris” Griskelis, at the age of 86. Kris was a man whose life was marked by unwavering dedication to duty, an unbreakable spirit, and a commitment to serving his country. Born on June 4, 1936, in Lithuania to Paetra and Ona Griskelis, Kris’s journey took him from his homeland to the heart of the United States, where he left an indelible mark as a member of the Special Forces – MACV-SOG.

Kris’s early life in Lithuania set the stage for the resilience and bravery that would define his later years. Little did he know that his path would lead him to become a distinguished member of the Military Assistance Command, Vietnam – Studies and Observations Group (MACV-SOG), a special operations unit that played a crucial role during the Vietnam War.

Joining the Special Forces was a testament to Kris’s commitment to service and a desire to make a difference. His service in MACV-SOG, particularly with Reconnaissance Team Iowa, showcased not only his skills but also his bravery in the face of adversity. As a member of RT Iowa, Kris operated in the challenging and often perilous environments of Vietnam, carrying out covert missions that required exceptional courage and skill.

Kris Griskelis’s dedication went beyond the call of duty. His service extended to the Central Highlands of Vietnam, where he became a member of CCC (Command and Control Central), demonstrating his ability to lead and inspire others even in the most challenging circumstances. As a part of the highly secretive MACV-SOG, Kris was involved in unconventional warfare, intelligence gathering, and special reconnaissance, contributing significantly to the overall mission success.

After his military career, Kris settled in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, where he continued to exemplify the values of courage and community service. His contributions to the local community were not only felt through his military service but also in his role as a member of the Special Operations Association (SOA), where he held membership number 271.

Kris Griskelis faced the trials of life with resilience and strength. His journey was marked by love, loss, and sacrifice. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paetra and Ona Griskelis, and his beloved wife, Linda Griskelis. In the face of these challenges, Kris remained steadfast, embodying the qualities that make a true hero. As we remember Kestutis “Kris” Griskelis, we honor not just a man, but a legacy of courage, sacrifice, and service.

His life serves as an inspiration to future generations, a reminder of the selflessness and bravery that define those who dedicate themselves to a cause greater than themselves. May Kris Griskelis rest in peace, knowing that his contributions to the Special Forces and his community will be remembered and celebrated for years to come.
