A senior at Ottawa Hills High School at the time of his passing, he had already demonstrated exceptional academic aptitude and a determination to excel in every aspect of his life. After completing his undergraduate studies at the University of North Carolina, where he focused on the foundations of orthodontics, Dr. Hoeflinger had set his sights on becoming an orthodontist.

His journey to excellence continued at St. John’s Jesuit High School, where he spent three formative years achieving extraordinary academic success.

Driven by an innate curiosity and a desire to challenge himself, he graduated with an impressive grade point average of 4.5, a testament to his intellectual prowess and commitment to his studies. Beyond his academic achievements, Dr. Hoeflinger was an avid participant in extracurricular activities.

He showcased his athletic abilities as a valuable member of the SJJHS varsity golf team. His commitment to both his studies and sports illustrated a well-rounded individual with a passion for both cerebral pursuits and physical challenges. Despite his successes in orthodontics and his accomplishments at St. John’s Jesuit High School, Dr. Hoeflinger felt the need to explore new horizons and step outside of his comfort zone. This pivotal moment led him to redirect his path toward the field of medicine, specifically neurosurgery and spine surgery.
