Under his leadership, MacLeod Group expanded its reach, offering high-quality seniors care in 14 communities and employing over 1,000 dedicated workers. A devoted husband to the late Irene MacKay, Brian was a loving father to William, Brian Douglas (Catherine), Sheumais (Taylor), and Jermal (Myrie). His commitment to family extended beyond his immediate kin, as he passionately believed in the importance of fostering healthy communities.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Brian D. MacLeod, a visionary entrepreneur, dedicated family man, and community builder. Brian left us on December 24, 2023, at the age of 71, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish, leaving behind a profound impact on rural Nova Scotia through his work with MacLeod Group, a leading provider of nursing homes in the region.
Born in Cleveland, Nova Scotia, Brian was the cherished son of William and Katherine MacLeod. His formative years were shaped by the rugged landscapes of Cape Breton, where he observed his father, William, working tirelessly in the woodlots. These early experiences instilled in Brian the core values of hard work and the sacrifices required for success, principles that would guide his personal and professional life.
Brian’s dedication to the well-being of rural areas was evident in his numerous contributions to local causes and organizations. He understood that vibrant cultures are essential for the health of any community. Brian generously donated his time and resources to celebrate and preserve the heritage of various communities across the Maritimes.
His involvement in organizations such as Mount Allison University, Dalhousie Medical Research Foundation, Nova Scotia Community College, St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Festival Antigonish Theatre, and Antigonish Highland Society showcased his commitment to creating thriving communities. Brian MacLeod was more than a businessman; he was a community leader, serving on multiple boards and causes that aimed to enhance the lives of those around him.
