Beyond his professional achievements, Bob was renowned for his zest for life and love of people. A seasoned traveler, he explored every state and visited 16 foreign countries, creating a treasure trove of memories and stories. He was an avid host, delighting in welcoming family for events like the Daytona 500 and beach visits, creating moments that would be cherished forever.
Bob’s community service was nothing short of legendary, earning him over 50 local awards for civic volunteer work over half a century. Southwest Tulsa, in particular, benefitted from his tireless efforts. He was named to the Webster High School Hall of Fame, received a Melvin Jones Fellow by Lions Clubs International, and was honored as Lion of the Year. The Westside YMCA acknowledged his service by naming him Volunteer of the Year. His long and impactful tenure as a Red Fork Lions Club member, a board member for the Westside YMCA, and a founding member of the Western Neighbors Board demonstrated his unwavering commitment to community betterment.
As a loving father and grandfather, Bob’s impact extended to the younger generations of his family. He was cherished by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, known affectionately as “Nan” or “Nanny.” His home was filled with laughter, stories, and the warmth of his hospitality.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Ann Patton, and four children: Beth Franklin (husband Karl Mawhirter) of Independence, MO; David Patton (wife Dina) of Silver City, NM; Michael Patton of Tulsa; and Diane Gail Carter (husband Dave) of Orlando. His twelve living grandchildren and great-grandchildren bring joy and laughter to his legacy. He is also survived by his sister Carol Sue Slankard, and a multitude of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
The surviving grandchildren and great-grandchildren include Patricia Franklin (husband Moe Fofana) of North Bend, WA; Ray Littles (wife Gabi) of Los Angeles, CA; Daniel, Malia, and Leila Franklin of Independence, MO; Shawn (wife Jayme) and Dakota Patton of Cliff, NM; Eva Patton and Braden Patton of Tulsa; Tony Colina of Orlando; and Liz Colina Boisseau (husband Kevin) and daughter Margaret of Orlando.
As family and friends gather to celebrate Bob’s life, they do so with gratitude for the countless memories, lessons, and laughter he shared. In the echoes of his storytelling and the warmth of his embrace, Bob’s legacy lives on—a legacy of service, laughter, and love that will continue to inspire generations to come. May he rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love and laughter he so generously shared with the world.
