In the quiet town of New Hartford, a profound sense of loss descended upon the community as Michael J. Vivacqua, a beloved husband, father, son, and friend, passed away on December 4, 2020, at the age of 45. Michael’s departure marked the end of a courageous battle with Frontotemporal Degeneration, a journey that showcased his resilience, strength, and the unwavering support of his family.
Born on July 24, 1975, in Ilion, Michael was the son of Fred J. and Joan Edic Vivacqua. His formative years were spent in Frankfort, where he attended local schools and eventually graduated from Frankfort Schuyler High School with the Class of 1993. Eager to pursue higher education, Michael enrolled at Herkimer County Community College (HCCC), laying the foundation for his academic journey.
Michael’s intellectual curiosity and passion for engineering led him to Clarkson University, where he graduated in 1997 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Undeterred by the challenges of balancing work and education, he furthered his academic pursuits, earning an MBA from SUNY Poly and a Master of Science Education from Utica College.
On April 21, 2001, Michael exchanged vows with Kirstin Shave in a ceremony held at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Schenectady. Their union would become a source of enduring strength, love, and support throughout the years that followed. As a devoted father, husband, and provider, Michael found purpose and joy in the familial bonds he cherished.
Professionally, Michael embarked on a fulfilling career as an engineer, contributing his skills and expertise to ConMed and later to Covidien in Oriskany Falls. His commitment to his work and his colleagues left an indelible mark, reflecting his dedication and passion for his chosen field.
In the community of faith, Michael was a communicant of Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church and a member of the Order of Prometheus. His spiritual journey was a source of solace and strength, providing him with the resilience needed to face the challenges brought on by Frontotemporal Degeneration.
Beyond his professional and spiritual pursuits, Michael was an avid sports enthusiast. A diehard Yankees and Bruins fan, he radiated infectious enthusiasm for Clarkson Hockey, embodying the true spirit of a devoted sports aficionado. His love for the game, whether watching from the stands or sharing the excitement with fellow fans, became a cherished part of his identity.
Michael’s legacy extends beyond his professional achievements and sports fandom; it resides in the love and memories he created with his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Kirstin Vivacqua; his devoted mother, Joan Vivacqua of Frankfort; and his three children, Shana, Vincent, and Thomas. In the fabric of family, he is woven into the lives of his sister Christine and brother-in-law Ben Hans, along with nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.
