Micheal McKeown Obituary, Blackrock Tidy Towns, Artist Responsible For An Iconic Cockle Pickers Sculpture Has Died

We are sad to tell you that Michael McKeown, the artist who made the famous Cockle Pickers sculpture on our beloved waterfront, has died. This is a sad time for the people of Blackrock. The beautiful piece was put up in 2018 and has since become a beloved part of our town’s culture.

In addition to being a real son of Blackrock, Michael McKeown leaves behind a creative legacy that has become a part of our community. As an illustrator, painter, and sculptor, he did a lot of different things that made our town’s art scene unique. His efforts will be remembered for years to come.

Besides showing how talented McKeown is as an artist, the Cockle Pickers sculpture is also a tribute to our town’s long marine history.

Its location on the promenade has given both locals and tourists a place to think and feel inspired. It has also become a gathering spot and a symbol of how art can bring people together.

We are saddened to say goodbye to a great artist, and our thoughts and prayers are with Michael McKeown’s family and friends. Although we are sad, let us remember the beautiful and creative things he gave us through his work.

His art spirit lives on in the sculptures, paintings, and drawings that decorate our community, making sure that his memory stays alive and strong even though he is no longer with us. We are saddened by the death of a great artist in Blackrock, and we are thankful for the huge contribution Michael McKeown has made to our town’s arts scene.
