Tommy Bansor, who used to be the leader of the club, died on December 10th. Eric Stacey, who also played for Oldershaw, was one of Tommy’s teachers at Prenton Secondary Modern.
It was Eric who suggested that Tommy join the team. He quickly made his debut with the first team after joining the club in 1969. He may have been the youngest player to ever make his appearance with the first team.
It didn’t take him long to become a regular on the first team, and he could play anywhere in the back line. He was a player who scored. There was a stunning sidestep and an audacious dummy that he could do that his friends knew about but that the opponent never did.
The pictures of the team that are on the club wall will remind people of his time on the first team. In 1978 and 1979, he was the leader of the first team. Later, he joined the fourth team and became a valuable member along with his peers.
He took trips to the Isle of Man in the early 1970s, and in 1976, he went on the famous tour of France. He loved to travel a lot. Once that happened, he always went to England international games with his club friends.
Not only was he a great player, but he was also a great guy. Tom had two boys with his first wife, named Gareth and Colin. He got married twice more after that.
Gareth played on the first team of Caldy Rugby Club for several years. Tom moved to Spain a few years ago after his second marriage and has stayed there ever since. His friends will all miss him a lot and long for him. Id
