In 1933, Johnny Doak built and opened Doak’s Dance Academy and Ballroom on Meadow Street, which was situated near the bus station that was in operation at the time. William Johnston, who was better known by his nickname Bill, was the grandson of Johnny Doak.
Bill, who had been ill for some time, passed away in his home in Wallacestone on Sunday, December 10. He had been ill for some time previously. The age of the man was 78. In the Falkirk area, Doak’s Ballroom was a well-known establishment that played a significant role in the beginning of a great number of romantic connections and weddings that would later take place.
His parents, Jessie and Bill Johnston brought Bill Johnston, his brother David, and his sister Sheila back from Canada in 1958 so that they could take over the management of the family business. This was done for Bill Johnston to take over the family business.
On the other hand, the fact that the family lived in the ballroom for some time and that there were additional living accommodations in the ballroom is something that a lot of people probably do not know about.
They would eventually take over the management of what was one of the most popular nightlife venues in central Scotland 10 years later, and they would change the name of the establishment to the one that is most commonly recognized by the present generation, which is the Maniqui. 10 years later, the siblings would eventually take over the management of the establishment.
