On Tuesday, state investigators made available footage from body-worn cameras that captured a fatal shooting that occurred in Parkville last month between cops from Baltimore County and a man.
A gunfight between cops who were responding to a complaint about a domestic disturbance and Arnel Redfern, who was 52 years old, resulted in his death outside of his home. According to the allegations, Redfern had previously shot and killed Maxine Redfern, who was 48 years old. No one who responded to the call for help sustained any injuries.
The Independent Investigations Division of the Maryland Attorney General’s Office, which is responsible for reviewing all deaths that involve law enforcement in the state, released the footage on Tuesday; however, an investigation is still underway at this time.
According to the police, officers arrived in the 2700 block of Maple Avenue at around 11:30 p.m. The film from the officer’s body camera shows the officer on his way to the residence, where he could hear a woman in distress. The door opened as soon as the officer knocked on it, and after that, there was an immediate outbreak of gunshots coming from within the residence. In response to the sound of further gunfire coming from within the residence, the officer stepped out of the path.
As soon as the door opened once more, the cop fires his weapon in the direction of the door before attempting to take shelter on the driveway. Get down on the ground and drop the firearm,” the police said in the footage. In front of the residence, two other cops who had responded to the call opened fire from behind their patrol cars. Following the exchange of gunfire, Redfern was discovered with a gunshot wound on the porch of his residence. You can see an officer performing chest compressions just as the video comes to a close.
As of the 10th of October, 2023, the court documents indicate that Arnel and Maxine Redfern were married, that they lived at the same location, and that Maxine Redfern was attempting to get a divorce.
These documents demonstrate that Arnel has a history of domestic violence, which resulted in hearings in October that mandated him to agree to a number of steps, including refraining from committing incidents of abuse and handing over his guns.
