Phillip C. Johnson Obituary, Retired Crescent City Jr./Sr. High School Teacher Has Died

The untimely death of Phillip C. Johnson, a beloved teacher at Crescent City Jr./Sr. High School, has left us in mourning. Philip passed away at the age of 68 on Monday night, December 11, 2023, at UF Health Flagler Hospital in St. Augustine. Though he attended Fletcher High School in Jacksonville Beach, Phillip’s hometown is Valdosta, Georgia. Jan Scott was his soulmate, and they met in 1982 after he had served for six years.

They embarked on their trip and were married for four decades. Phillip attended UNF and graduated with a degree in education. He spent 30 years teaching mathematics to students in grades 7–12 at Crescent City after moving to Seville. He altered the region and four thousand students are indebted to him. His lifelong pursuit of knowledge was evident in every aspect. Phillip was said to inspire the Catfish Run and Cross-Country teams.

Because of his innovative approaches to earning additional credit through running, biking, and baking chocolate chip cookies, he earned the reputation of the “infamous” teacher. Jan and Phillip ran a nutritional firm, raised AKC Chocolate Labrador Retrievers through selective breeding, and produced ferns and blueberries on their family property. The way they approached these events was a reflection of how much they cared for one another and their families.

Phillip had the faith of a believer in Jehovah. Sharing his God-given hope with anybody who would listen, his chats revealed his love for the Bible. Among the many who have managed to stay alive are Jan, Phillip Johnson’s cherished wife of forty years. Gerald Johnson, Karen Johnson, Sam and Karla Johnson, Hannah and Joel Dennerle, Patricia and Rodney Pierson, and his brother and sister-in-law are among others who will carry on his legacy. Brandy, Rebecca, Matthew, and Lani Johnson, his nieces and nephews, will miss him.

On Saturday, January 6, 2024, at 2:00 pm, the auditorium at Miller Intermediate School will host Phillip’s memorial service. Inviting everybody are welcome. At 1:00 pm, before to the ceremony, there will be a visiting hour.

The family of Phillip can find expressions of sympathy and memories in the Book of Memories located at www.johnsonoverturffunerals.com. Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Crescent City, Florida is in charge of arrangements for Mr. Phillip C. Johnson.
